A Welcome from our President

Lynton Daehli

Brighton Art Society is located in the gracious former Brighton Town Hall building in Wilson Street Brighton, which is now home to the Bayside Arts and Cultural Centre. We have a generous studio space on level one where we offer a variety of painting and drawing sessions for all skill levels.

Our talented and experienced tutors take classes at various times during the day and evening, Monday to Friday, for those who want guidance in developing their artistic skills. Each tutor has an individual style and approach and the opportunity to focus on a range of media is provided.

In addition, there are several untutored groups which facilitate access to life and portrait models and leave the choice of medium and approach to participants.

The friendly collegial atmosphere of the sessions at Brighton Art Society is enjoyed by all who attend. Exploring and expressing our artistic interests in the company of others who share such interests is always rewarding.

In addition to the regular tutored and untutored sessions, a number of Workshops and Demonstrations are held across the course of the year. The Demonstrations are held on a Sunday afternoon at the studio. A visiting professional artist completes a picture in his or her chosen medium over a couple of hours, while discussing the working process and answering audience questions. This provides invaluable insights into the process of picture-making.

The Workshops are held on weekdays during term breaks and are of one or two days duration. They are led by a guest professional artist who will begin by demonstrating an approach. Under his or her guidance, the participants then work on their own pictures, to explore and develop that approach.
