President’s Welcome to the Brighton Art Society

On behalf of the Committee members of the Brighton Art Society I welcome you to our Society.  

If you are interested in painting and drawing, still life, occasional outdoor painting, life drawing, this is the for you.

We have tutored classes or untutored groups running day and evening most days except Sunday.  We have experienced and talented artists in our membership as well as beginners, and we all feel the tingle that a bare canvas gives us.

Whilst our tutors supplement their lessons with their own reference material as well as occasional visits to special exhibitions in the city, we have a small reference library of our own.

Our committee members, despite their administrative roles, are artists too. You will see them in tutored and untutored groups, palettes in hand.  We feel that we are a living society with everyone contributing at every level. 

Our annual membership is about 250, mostly from the City of Bayside,  and principally  people who are interested in developing as artists.  Some are making art their career and some are finding that they now have the time to explore a new-found talent.  Some just find that drawing and painting is a method of relaxation.  It is possible that some even come for the coffee and biscuits during the breaks!
